위도와 경도 좌표가 있는 csv를 QGIS로 불러오려고 할 때, 다음과 같은 난관에 봉착했다.
X좌표와 Y좌표를 각각 선택하라고 하는데, [위도, 경도]로 해야할지, [경도, 위도]로 해야할지 모르겠더라.
생각해보니 위도와 경도가 해당 개체의 위치를 나타낸다는 건 아는데, 정확히 각각 어떤 위치를 나타내는지는 잘 몰랐다.
그래서 이 기회에 정리를 해보고자 한다.
일단 위도와 경도의 정의를 살펴보면...
위도 (Latitude) : 적도를 기준으로 북쪽 또는 남쪽으로 얼마나 떨어져 있는지를 나타내는 지표
(0은 적도를 나타내며, 북쪽으로 90, 남쪽으로 90까지가 범위이다)
경도 (Longitude) : 영국의 그리니치 천문대를 기준으로
동쪽 또는 서쪽으로 얼마나 떨어져 있는지를 나타내는 지표
(0은 그리니치 천문대를 지나는 본초 자오선을 나타내며,
동쪽 180, 서쪽으로 180까지가 범위)
헷갈린다면, 위도는 위쪽을 나타내는 지표라고 생각해보자.
남북을 나타내는 것이 위도 Latitude
동서를 나타내는 것이 경도 Longitude
남북을 나타내는 것이 Y좌표
동서를 나타내는 것이 X좌표니까
각각 대응하면 다음과 같다.
위도 = Y 좌표
경도 = X 좌표
이렇게 해놓고도 나중에 가면 헷갈릴 수 있다.
헷갈린다면, 위에 언급했던 대로 위도 = 위쪽을 나타내는 지표! 라고 생각하고, Y로 대응시켜보자.
